Démarche artistique
C’est un peu par accident que j’en suis venu à la création artistique. Une mystérieuse attirance, instinctive, contre laquelle je n’aurais pas su résister.
Je ressens la pulsion de créer. J’y laisse libre cours. Mon mode d ‘expression privilégié est la peinture. C’est mon moyen de communication, de mise en phase avec l’humanité.
Mes principales sources d’inspiration sont le paysage gaspésien et son intensité dramatique de même que le monde à l’esprit indépendant et créatif qui habite ce territoire. Je sens les gens de ce pays, tout comme moi, en forte identification au milieu. Celui-ci nous façonne et nous le transformons à notre tour. Une symbiose entre toutes choses, à l’image de ce qui se passe à l’échelle de l’univers. En quelque sorte, c’est la grandeur du territoire local qui mène à l’universel. Il m’arrive aussi de créer sans partir d’une source externe d’inspiration, y allant alors de gestes automatiques sur le canevas. Cela donne lieu à un travail abstrait prenant source à même mon inconscient; une traduction libre de mes émotions, de mes états d’âme.
Le contact étroit avec la nature omniprésente et forte ouvre inévitablement sur le monde intérieur, sur l’émotion, sur le non-manifeste. Ma quête dans mon processus créatif vise à en arriver à une forme de sublimation de la matière en visant à la réduire à sa plus simple expression pour en extraire les lignes de force, celles qui mènent à l’inconscient et au sacré. Je vise à épurer de plus en plus mon travail, à le simplifier. Je crois que c’est par ce chemin qui mène à l’essentiel qu’on arrive à toucher par l’accès à un langage universel. À cet effet, les symboles prennent souvent une place non négligeable dans mon travail. À terme, l’objet initial d’inspiration est transformé, magnifié et se fait moyen de communication avec l’autre pour ainsi le toucher, le faire réagir et entrer en relation. L’œuvre créée vit d’elle-même; elle interagit avec l’extérieur. Elle est. Elle dure. Elle a son existence propre.
Telle est donc ma quête; un effort en continu. Si le processus est souvent laborieux, il n’en demeure pas moins que la motivation est au rendez-vous, porté que je suis par le sentiment d’accomplir ma mission de créateur. À l’occasion, quelques moments de grâce s’invitent au détour…
Artistic approach
It was a bit of an accident that I became involved in artistic creation. A mysterious, instinctive attraction that I couldn't resist.
I feel the urge to create. I give it free rein. My preferred mode of expression is painting. It's my way of communicating, of being in tune with humanity.
My main sources of inspiration are the Gaspesian landscape and its dramatic intensity, and the independent, creative spirit of the people who live here. I feel that the people of this land, like myself, identify strongly with their environment. It shapes us, and we in turn shape it. It's a symbiosis of all things, just like in the universe. In a way, it's the grandeur of the local territory that leads to the universal. I also sometimes create without an external source of inspiration, using automatic gestures on the canvas. The result is an abstract work that springs from my unconscious, a free translation of my emotions and states of mind.
Close contact with strong, omnipresent nature inevitably opens the door to the inner world, to emotion, to the unmanifest. My quest in my creative process is to achieve a form of sublimation of matter, aiming to reduce it to its simplest expression in order to extract the lines of force, those that lead to the unconscious and the sacred. I aim to purify my work more and more, to to simplify it. I believe that it's through this path, which leads to the essential, that we can reach out and access a universal language. To this end, symbols often play a significant role in my work. In the end, the initial object of inspiration is transformed, magnified and becomes a means of communication with others, touching them, making them react and enter into a relationship. The work created lives by itself; it interacts with the outside world. It is. It endures. It has a life of its own.
This, then, is my quest: an ongoing effort. Although the process is often laborious, the fact remains that I'm motivated by the feeling of accomplishing my mission as a creator. Occasionally, a few moments of grace come my way...
